Green Audit

Business

Our goal is to have as light an environmental footprint as possible.
What we are doing well:
  • we use eco-friendly products from mainly local “women who work from home”, small cottage industries and fair trade co-ops (Nepal and Sri Lanka), thus reducing daily commuting and gas emissions.
  • we pay a “fair price” for the goods we purchase meaning that the women entrepreneurs set their own pricing based on what they feel their products are worth.
  • we purchase in bulk, cutting down on shipping frequency and gas emissions.
  • we use recycled products, cardboard boxes, stuffed with old newspapers for shipping purposes.
  • we reduce packaging materials by wrapping bundles in bamboo towels.
  • we use on-line marketing as much as possible reducing the need for paper marketing materials.
  • We use tele and on-line methods of communication.
What needs improving:
  • labels and cards are being printed on regular paper stock, we plan to change to recycled paper.
  • investigate additional wrapping options for smaller products.
  • investigate further avenues of bulk shipping for purchasing.

Personal (Zoey)

What I am doing well:
  • Run business from home reducing commuting and driving.
  • Drive a Toyota Prius Hybrid.
What needs improving:
  • I need to find and start using recycled paper for our hippy grandma cards.

Family:

What we are doing well:
  • we re-use, re-cycle and compost as much as possible.
  • we are using more solar powered accessories.
  • we try to wear clothes and use towels more than once.
  • we try to use eco-friendly cleaning products or make our own.
  • we use cloth rags instead of paper towels as much as possible.
  • Use enviro- friendly appliances.
  • For vacations we offset our air travel with earth friendly sailing.
What needs improving:
  • cluster car trips so we reduce the frequency of trips within town.
  • Encourage kids to use towels more than once before putting in laundry
• Wayne commutes to the city 5 days a week in an SUV.  Short of trading him in for a greener model, we are investigating hybrid vehicles and ride sharing options.

Integrity:

A percentage of our profit will be donated towards initiatives benefiting elder women and children.
In the spirit of transparency, we are willing to discuss our financials with those interested in further information.
